Jon asked...
Valentine plans to spend some time on Lake Champlaine; we are looking for
good provisioning spots. Close supermarket with good public transportation,
either anchor or a marina for a day. Thanx, Jon.

Actually, the easier places are on the way to Lake Champlain, coming from
the south. In Waterford, a Price Chopper grocery has their own dock on the
Hudson's east bank, just below the Waterford Bridge. Across a small street,
a Hannaford (somewhat more upscale) supermarket is also accessible to this
dock. A few miles above there, Mechanicville has all the resources a
cruiser needs, and a free town wall and pumpout, but groceries are perhaps
5-8 blocks walk or taxi ride.
On Lake Champlain, Burlington is the only town with city type services
anywhere near the waterfront. Major grocery stores and a West Marine are
accessible via public transit or cab. Moorings there, or a choice of two or
three downtown docks.
In Malletts Bay, north of Burlington, there is a marina just a short walk
from a very well stocked, but small grocery/deli/package store. Also a
public
launch ramp for dinghy access.
