We just completed the Canal in an Ocean Alexander 50. draws 4.5' --which is the max . Slow going with 49 locks, but lovely scenery. Locktenders very friendly and helpful.
We're in Ottawa now on the wall--which is between the Pretoria Ave lift bridge and the last 8 locks. there is a website: www.rideau-info.com

Rather then crossing Lake Ontario, we are thinking of going up the Rideau canal and then down the Ottawa river to Montreal. Then out the St Lawrence to the entrance of the canals that will take us to Lake Champlain. Are there any major pitfalls we should know about?? Georgs sent me an email with his web site on this trip, but I misplaced it. Any advice will be appreciated. Fred Flinn on the Black Pearl 27" Regal
I heartily recommend the Rideau. Our first cruise on the Rideau in June was far more enjoyable than expected. In fact, we'll be going back in September, probably St. Lawrence to Montreal, Ottawa to Ottawa, down the Rideau to Kingston.
