On our Defever 41, we carry a RIB dinghy on davits. We have a 9.9 Mercury
4-stroke engine that will run the boat extremely fast. It gets up on plane
easily with my wife and I and our dog. Because the engine is heavy and I
would not recommend a 4 stroke if starting over, but it was the set up we
received when we bought the boat from previous owners. It does run well and
other than the weight, its great.
Dinghy trade-off are smaller dinks are easy to handle and store on deck and
you can most times leave the engine on if its a 4hp or so. Bigger dinks go
faster, are drier in rough water and you have some more room. I find that
most times we dont use the speed as we are slow motoring in an anchorage.
