I'm also told that one can avoid a shower and laundry an extra day by
wearing one's undies inside out. I myself prefer to have a large hot water
heater instead.

Roughly equivalent to what is known as a "Navy" shower. OTOH, a "Marine"
shower is waterless and consists of deodorant only. :)
The opposite of a Navy shower is known in the service as a "Hollywood"
shower.
