GL: fuel on the north passage

Fred,

Back in the 90's I had a 19 foot bow-rider where the manufacturer had
goofed and put in the wrong engine. That boat was able to run well over 70
MPH in calm water and had a fuel consumption to match. I always kept a
pair of 6 gallon fuel cans in the front, which helped hold the nose down
and allowed her to get up on plane faster. I've also seen a number of the
smaller, non-trawler types of boats with cans of fuel on the front decks.

I would not want to carry fuel inside the cabin, but I also see problems
carrying fuel on deck where the hot sun can heat the fuel and pressurize
it. On my bow-rider, I always kept the front tarp installed over the fuel
cans, which kept the cans from over heating.

Carrying extra fuel can be a real problem on most boats.
