This is to advise anyone planning on visiting Fort Edward NY at Champlain
Lock 7:
Contrary to notices from the Canal Corp, the Fort Edward Yacht Basin is NOT
available. Right this moment, there is a 200 foot long barge at the wall,
and 2 dredges alongside and several more dredges blocking the channel
leading to the harbor. The "silt curtain" barricade blocking the channel
continues to be opened on its regular schedule, but you still can't get
very far past it and the harbor itself is blocked. All buoys are removed
and the sand bar remains.
Always available is the floating dock just above Lock 7, this is not
affected by the dredging. It is deep draft but has no services. Its
within walking distance to restaurants and convenience store, or email me
and I can transport you by car to the supermarket, hardware etc.
Today there was a local canal shutdown, to Captain Sterling's dismay, as
Tug Margot pushed thru with some massive industrial equipment on a huge
barge. This activity has been completed and the Margot and her barge have
left the area.
I'll post weekly notices on this. Anyone needing more recent info, please
feel free to contact me.
