I've found that as long as I have internet access in the AM before 
departure, the marine section of Weather Underground (www.wunderground.com) 
was better to use than the VHF WX channels. I would bring up the next one or 
two areas of travel, clip (highlight, ctrl-C) the wind/wave section and 
paste (ctrl-v) it into a permanent document file for reference during the 
day.

Much more reliable than listening to 10 minutes of marine WX radio for the 
info of concern, then finding out your mind slept through to the pertinent 
part.

Of course a mid-day update, in some manner, was crucial.
