GL: Windlass Covers

Good Morning All,

I replaced my old windlass last year, and have not had an opportunity to use
it as the boat is in storage until spring.  My question is, other than a
cosmetic look, what is the consensus of putting a cover over the windlass.  Is
it a functional cover that will help protect the unit, or would it prove to be
a PITA.
