We have a Natures Head composting toilet. I would consider it built in since
it is screwed to floor in the head compartment, but it can be removed for
emptying by removing a few screws. Seems to me thats at least as much effort
as reconnecting a quick connect fitting on an overboard discharge hose.

The lawyers and judges will ultimately decide the legal definition of
"portable", but if the patrol officer decides to hand out a ticket for all
practicle purposes, it is illegal (it's cheaper to pay the ticket and move on
than fight it).

We were debating the route and while we were leaning toward the Eire
Canal/Lake Eire route, this pretty well decides it.

Anyone know if there is a chamber of commerce organization for the
trent-severn? We spend a few thousand a month in the areas we travel
thru. That money won't be spent in Canada due to a silly rule. This strikes me
as the best approach. The police organizations have little to gain by openly
opposing the current law. If the buisnesses see money going away, they will
pressure the polititians to address the issue.

Mike, is your composting toilet portable or built in? If built in, then its
not portable. The ones I have been looking at are built in, with
the seat portion above the deck the balance below. There is a "holding
tank" with it, thats the compartment where the wastes are actually
broken down into compost.

While there are a number of manufacturers the ones I have been looking at
are the Sun-Mar line. I know they have a website and show the ones
they carry that are specifically designed for marine use.

In my case, there is what will appear to be a pump out fitting on the aft
deck, but it won't lead anywhere. If I really get eco consciencous
I will convert my black water tank to a grey water tank and I can have that
pumped out.

I am going to do some research into this act and get the definitions for
"portable", "marine sanitation device" (which to me is where a composting
toilet falls) "holding tank" etc etc
