Another great summer cruise is what we called our trial before starting the
Great Loop. It is a not too small mini-loop from the New Orleans area (Lake
Ponchartrain) over to Mobile, up the Tenn/Tom, turn right on the Tennessee
River, go at least to Chatanooga, then turn around and go downriver to the
Land between the Lakes, on to the Ohio, out to the Mississippi River and
down to Memphis, Greenville, Ms, Vicksburg, Ms, Natchez, Ms, Baton Rouge,
La, and finally through the Industrial Canal in New Orleans back into Lake
Ponchartrain. About 2,200 miles... I don't remember if it was statue miles,
or nautical miles. Lots of fun. Do the Lower Mississippi in August or
September when it is usually calm. The big barges are not a real problem
because the river is so big. Fuel is available, but you have to plan it.
Have fun!
