If you can, look down the rad filler opening with the genset
running.  If you see an oily slick and/or bubbles coming up, you have a gasket
leak or worse.  Sometimes, just torquing the bolts will fix the problem. 
Sometimes adding Bars Leaks or another rad sealer will solve the problem. 
Sometimes it is time for a new gasket or to replace cracked casting. 
Oftentimes, just a rad additive will fix it more or less permanently.  The
choice depends whether the genset is a luxury and used occasionally gunk
holing, where a breakdown would be a minor nuisance, or whether it is an
essential item, keeping your stores edible on an offshore trip or anchoring
out.
