GL: Vinyl Letters Removal

I want to thank everyone who responded to my question as to what was the best
way to remove the boat name.  Most agreed that oven cleaner was the best way.
Well I just returned from the boat to do that job, and I can report that it is
the only way to go.  All I did was spray on the oven cleaner, let it stand for
about 10 to 15 minutes, and scrub off with a hand brush.  Still see the ghost,
but the hard part was easy.  Now I have another problem.  Some of the letters
are black vinyl, and I gotta tell you the oven cleaner didn't even budge them.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
