For us Mac types (I'll save that rant for another day, but for now, I
will just say our house is a Windoze-free zone!), there are a couple of
good nav programs. GPSNaxX is the inexpensive one, but it only reads
the raster charts. MacENC is a bit more expense (but still a LOT less
expensive than Coastal Explorer) that can read both raster and vector
charts.

Now, I actually do have a Windoze partition on one computer, and I will
put in a good word for Raymarine's RayTech Planner, which is free - it
is a limited version of of the RayTechRNS 6.0 software. It is a
available at
http://www.raymarine.com/Default.aspx?site=1&section=2&page=1535. I
still find this an excellent program for route planning. If you have a
Raymarine display on your boat, the software looks and behaves the same,
right down to the soft buttons, plus it has a full menu system like
other Windoze programs. Highly recommended
