CradlePoint has some excellent solutions for this.  You didn't mention  
if that was the product you were using.  We tested their products hard  
last Summer and they worked really well.  Just check their supported  
product page to make sure the aircard/express card/USB dongle or phone  
you'll be using is supported.

It should be noted that CradlePoint supports a phone connection  
directly for a variety of phones.  There are a few advantages to this:

- Uses the data plan on your phone instead of requiring another  
monthly plan

- Can be turned on and off, month by month as needed

- Generally lower cost


There are also some disadvantages:

- Generally cannot be speaking on the phone when you are using the  
data connection (answering a call will pause the data connection)

- Losing the phone loses your data connection too



Like everything else on a boat, it's all tradeoffs...
