I have to completely agree with Jeff on this philosophy and understanding of
the utility of the Internet. Think about it....the Internet is all about
INFORMATION DISCOVERY. ActiveCaptain is paving the way for boaters to couple
Internet information discovery with having almost real time and
instantaneous information about the places you want, be it anchorages or
marinas. All the ActiveCaptain mark comments show you date the comment was
left, so you can evaluate the age of the information yourself.
The trick is you have to obtain the tools to provide you with mobile
connectivity for this to work for cruisers and liveaboards. But even if you
dont have mobile connectivity, ActiveCaptain is very useful as a desktop
planning tool prior to the trip.
(In the interest of full disclosure, I do have a bias in this discussion. I
worked for 10 years to bring mobile connectivity to
aircraft....http://www.AirborneInternet.com . Therefore I am a natural
advocate of this capability.)
