Labor day weekend moved Ocean Rose from Newport, RI to Ocean City, NJ. Newport
to Greenport (end of Long Island). Greenport to Oyster Bay (Long Island). Oyster
Bay to Ocean City, NJ. Left Oyster Bay at 9:00 AM (Monday)?and pulled into Ocean
City, NJ at 4:00 PM?(at dead low tide).
Lucky with weather and had a wonderful trip from Oyster Bay down the East River
with a beautiful crisp morning with crystal clear blue skies, the city was
beautiful. Plenty of personal boat traffic on the East River. Trip down the
Jersey shore was very nice with flat seas (other then a big ocean swell). Ran
right down the beach. Friend of mine always said "run down the beach and when
you "smell suntan lotion" back off a little" :-) :-)
Great Egg (GE BELL Buoy) Inlet (dead low tide) was a piece of cake to come into.
Never saw water less then 10 feet and mostly in the 15-20 feet range. Well
marked with red's and green's on about a Northerly Heading from GE.?(stay in the
middle, sand bars on either side). At the end you have a "red/green" where you
turn port under a 65 foot bridge to the town of Ocean City / Somers Point
harbors. Plenty of good water to anchor (especially now that the summer boat
traffic is much lower) Ocean City "Boardwalk" is a treat for the kids and the
adults. Somers Point with all it's restaurants and bars along Bay Ave is an easy
dingy ride or?Harbor Cove?marina directly on Bay Ave, is a very nice stop. Take a look at
"Active Capt'n" or send me an e-mail for information.
GE Bell to Cape May Inlet is 25 K miles.
