Dan - One thing to do - Get the latest copy of 'Quimby's Cruising Guide'. It has lots of info regarding the various marinas and towns along just about all the inland rivers. My copy is over 10 years old and doesn't indicate much about anchoring out but maybe the newer version does.
?Also, I'd suggest getting the latest Corps Of Engineers chart of the Upper Mississippi. I believe they still sell hard copies of it (Call them at their Lock and Dam 15 office, Rock Island). I think you can also print it out by going to their website. It does not show depth but will have lots of other info, including where those dreaded wing dams are hiding. You don't want to hit one of those as you're trying to find a quiet anchorage.

I did it. I just bought a 33ft Carver in the Dubuque IA area. I plan on
staying there next year then if I have everything done to the boat I want
done. I will head south in the late fall of next year. What I need to know is
where can I get info on the upper miss in this area. Such as good places to
anchore out for the night etc... I live 3hrs away from the boat so will
spending alot of time on it come next spring. All the info I seem to find is
south of the Ill river.
Thanks
Dan
