GL: Boating Weather

Ron, and all,

I LIKE playing tugboat on the Erie Canal! There is nothing
quite like it. I sure do like the cool summers up here in the frozen north
too ... but shudder to think what I'm in for very soon.

I got my
snowblower started up this afternoon so I'm ready for it. The machine was
left for me by the previous home owner (recently retired Champlain Canal
superintendent) who then fled to south florida. It's a huge machine with big
teeth on the blades for chopping ice. I'm afraid I'm going to be needing it.
help me, Mommie!

Nope, not planning on getting a mule, I went a different
route. I just hired a new employee for my business, who has written several
books about the old Erie Canal, and is now working on her next book on the old
Champlain Canal. So, now all I hear in my office is canal talk, and I think I
have my documentation problems solved. All I need do now is holler down the
hallway, "When was old lock 19 built?" and the answer comes right back at me.
With her help, I have located 4 locks and an aqueduct from the old Champlain
Canal, right here in my new home town.

Now if only I could afford the time
and fuel to do some more boating, life would be complete. But retirement is
only a few years off, so I can wait.

One good thing here ... folks are well
prepared for deep snow. And the village DPW plows the 300 feet of sidewalk in
front of my house for me!

Best wishes,

Fred

Because you wanted to live where Summertime temperatures rarely exceed 80
degrees F and you wanted to play tugboat on the Erie Canal. I fully expect
you to purchase a mule for the coming season to lend authenticity to your
documentation efforts. Hope there is room on your fantail for some hay
bales!

And 4-6 inches of snow
tonite at Fort Edward NY, half way up the Champlain
Canal ... and more snow
predicted every day right thru Friday.

My boat's
still in the water, it
gets hauled this weekend.

Remind me again, why I
moved this far north?
