Am looking for a Brownies dive unit, either an Explorer 280 or an Explorer
390 for use onboard my trawler in the Keys this winter.

Also am looking for any comments from boaters with prior experience with a
hookah dive unit.

I've had them for years and love it. It's like snorkeling with unlimited air
in that you are not carrying around a tank and BC on your back when you dive.
Very freeing.

That said, all the same rules as when SCUBA diving still apply. You real
should take a basic SCUBA class before using a hooka rig. And you should be
sure any quest who use it are SCUBA certified.

They will last for years as long as you wash the unit with fresh water and
spray it down with something like Boeshield T-9 after each use. Also drain out
all the gas before storing long term.

There bare other companies out there that make simular units. Like:
