GL: Do you really use your dinghy?

All depends on what your cruising style and objectives are. In our
case, we love to anchor or moor out. We in many ways consider the big
boat as merely the delivery vehicle for the small boat, which beyond
just getting to shore, we use to explore the nooks, crannies and
islets around us. If one's cruising entails going from dock to dock
and focussing on exploring the cities and villages attached thereto,
then you may be able to get away with out one. It's really a personal
style type of thing, though I couldn't imagine doing something like
the loop without one if just for the reasons already offered by other
posters.
