You may have answered your own  question. You recognize that you do need 
something to get ashore while at anchor or at a mooring ball. Double that 
need if you have a dog.
I believe a dingy has greater carrying capacity, is generally safer , less 
prone to possible capsize, and can be a lot dryer when the wind is up and 
the water is choppy. I'll take the dinghy over a kayak any day.
