Roger is correct.
It is the lock at Deep Creek, VA at the northern end of the Dismal
Swamp Canal. I don't recall the name of the lockmaster, but he is an
expert at blowing the conch shell. While he doesn't "try" to collect
from each boat, he does appreciate your adding to his collection --
which is impressive.
There may be another lockmaster that collects shells, but this one
does for sure. You can see a picture of him here:
