Don:
We currently have our boat, Georgia Peach, at Columbus Marina and it
is a great place to keep the boat, but they only do relatively minor
repairs and have no facility for hauling and doing yard work.
Demopolis does. We chatted with Fred, the Marina Manager, today. He
and the yard are capable folks, do good work and are reasonably
priced. The marina itself is not as nice.
Columbus is a long day's run from Demopolis (farther north), two easy days.
Paraphrasing Seasalt007, "Columbus Marina is very clean and has, last
I heard, a nice restaurant on site. There has been a recent
management change...Jimmy, the assistant...[is] still
there. Jimmy is a nice fellow..." This is all correct. The cat,
belonging to the prior manager, is gone. The new manager is "T"
Caldwell, and seems anxious to serve his customers well.
Bottom line: Get the heavy work done at Demopolis and keep the boat
for longer periods at Columbus.
The trip up to there on the Ten-Tom (officially the river portion of
the waterway) is special -- isolated and beautiful. Just plan your
stops along the way carefully.
If I can tell you mor, just ask.
