GL: Trent-Severn

Hi --  We are considering a trip from Sturgeon Bay, WI to the Trent-Severn
this summer.  My wife will need to fly home to work for a week, so we'll need
to be able to get her to the airport.  
I'm assuming Toronto would be the
closest airport?  If not, what other options do we have?
Also, does anyone
know if there are many towns / cities along the Trent-Severn that would have
rental cars available?  If so, what cities?
