When I ask for information, I prefer to get it from someone who 
should know, not just someone offering an opinion or guess. Including 
credentials tends to give credibility to the replies. I don't think 
it is done to try to impress anyone, I think it is just to let 
someone know they are speaking from a knowledgeable background. If 
knowing someone has a specific background is troublesome, just don't 
read about it. Ignorance is bliss.

USCG name and hailing port lettering requirements are very specific. 
Many documented boats ARE improperly lettered.
