GL: Erie Canal - One day??

I am curious about the starting and ending locations on the Erie canal for a
one day trip.

I did a rough 8-segment route from Troy to the junction with the Oswego
River ~144 miles and 22 locks. I suspect actually following the waterway
adds a few more miles. To Oswego is another 23 miles and 8 more locks.

At 10 mph (8.3 knots) just the canal is at least 14 hours before waiting for
the locks. Even if they are open when you get there, they will cost you at
least 15 minutes - lets be generous and say 10 minutes). That adds 220
minutes-3.5 hours.

So I get 17.5 hrs for a displacement hull boat really pushing it if you
catch every light green.

Help me here...
