Last summer, while returning south from New York, we had several days of
strong easterly wind forecast. We got out of NY harbor in time and had a
pleasant run down the coast of NJ to Manasquan. We ran into the inlet and
picked up the NJICW where continued south until we found a suitable anchorage.
It started raining just as we got the anchor set. The wind blew strong out of
the east for three or four days but we were well protected and were able to
continue our travel. The result of this strong easterly was that more water
was pushed into the bays so we never had any worry about our draft exceeding
the depth. Having said that, I will warn you that the NJICW is much slower
than going coastwise. But in that situation we would have otherwise been
stuck.
