Also, wear white socks and light colored clothing. I usually wore 
black socks and got chewed up... My wife usually wears white socks 
and doesn't get bitten at all. After realizing that I really wasn't 
better tasting to the flies than my wife, I switched to white socks 
and don't get bitten - as much anyway.

This also works for Florida's black flies which are equally 
voracious, and are usually in much, much greater numbers. Once I saw 
the downwind side of several white boats turn almost black - just 
from the flies. They aren't usually that bad, but when they are......

The combination of Skin So Soft and white/light colored clothing really helps!
