GL: Cruising around New Jersey

Old posts noted that the intracoastal waterways thru NJ is not the way to go
especially since my trawler draws 4.5, do you guys have recommendations of
the offshore shore transit other than the normal weather, wind, and that it
is a long day. IE: if we cruise 5 miles off shore verses 10 miles is there a
current advantage or disadvantage, arrival in NY, traffic at different times
of the day We will be going north to the Hudson in route to Quebec for July
then on to do the Down East Route and if we can discover known surprises
life is better. South east cruisers does not go up that hi, which we really
enjoy their daily updates as we have been cruising up and down the
intracoastal.
