If you have the time, attend one or more trawlerfests and/or boat shows, any change you get to take a ride on any boat of intrest, take it. Trawlers can have as much room as house boats, are much more seaworthy, and usually diesel powered ( no explosion hazard and better fuel ecomomy. Also you will get more respect on the waterways with a trawler than you would on a houseboat, and probably better resale value. Jon, Valentine Nordic Tug 37.

Thanks for all the great advise from everyone. It sounds like were on our way
to the water. As the wife and myself have owned a houseboat before so we know
what its like. But she has never been on a trawler. And Rick came up with a
great idea take her and rent a trawler for a few days. So does anyone know a
place that rents them. Anywhere on the loop would be fine. As we love to
travel as much as possible.
