Cruising the Cumberland River this summer has made it to our short list.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hi John,
We docked at Nashville Public Landing just upstream from the steam
powered stern wheeler 'Delta Queen'. We were startled as a long blast on the
steam whistle slowly built to a crescendo to announce her departure. As she
turned about in the narrow stream, the calliope brought out goose bumps as we
watched and listened until she faded out of sight.
Later, we were watching the sunset from our cockpit when we heard the
swish swish of a paddle. 'General Jackson', the world's largest showboat came
swishing by. She did a U-turn and we waved to the party goers as they
passed by for a second time.
Later 'River Explorer', a floating hotel pushed by a tug, came and
docked where the Delta Queen had been.
Here is a description of our Cumberland itinerary.
Mile 32. Green Turtle Bay Marina is the premier marina on the Cumberland.
Mile 59. Lake Barkley State Park marina is newly renovated.
Mile 90. Anchorage at Dover Island (I would anchor at Hickman Creek next
time round)
Mile 125 A new dock opened at Clarksville after our trip.
Mile 158 Riverview Restaurant has an overnight dock and really good catfish.
Mile 190 Nashville Public Landing
Mile 222 Drakes Creek Marina (Anchor High is an alternate marina)
Mile 246 Anchorage at Sandy Chapel
Mile 264 Anchorage at Cedar Creek.
This is where we turned around.
