GL: The wrong way

In 2004, on the Great Loop, we traveled from the Mississippi
River up the Ohio to the Cumberland River while the Ohio
was flooding. The current was up to 4 knots and there was
a lot of debris in the water including whole trees and at least
one refrigerator......that we saw. I'm sure we barely missed
a lot of stuff we couldn't see. All day long we zigged and
zagged to miss floating objects.
There were 3 other boats in the group and we were very lucky
that no one suffered damage. It's only about 50 miles but
took two exhausting days with one overnight anchorage
in 3 knot current. I wouldn't want to do it again.
We should have waited several more days for the
water and current to drop. Maybe next time.
