Having lived in Punta Gorda for over 17 years until moving toSW Alabama 3 years ago, I can offer a bit of advice about area marinas. There is Fisherman's Village in downtown Punta Gorda, a town that's very nice. You are more than a bike ride from the NEW Publics though. It is a distance up Charlotte Harbor and only worth the trip if you plan to stay a few days. Fisherman's Village waas all but wiped out during charlie but has been redone and the marina is open now, however IF they still have the same female Harbor mistress...beware! She has a real attitude especially re women!
There is also Burnt store Marina at the bottom of Charlotte HArbor. That's 10 miles across from the deep pass at Boca Grande. It has a shallow entrance but you chould be able to get int. Nice place but it's a 10 mile ride to the nearest grocery/drug store! Don't even think of a marina on Boca Grande, both are terribly over priced! The others are OK that were mentioned earlier. No, you cannot go into Usseppa unles you know someone there...but you can anchor off the island across from Cabbage Key.
