Yesterday 06/11/08 we rode the worlds largest hydrolic elivator, the Petersborough lift locks, 65 foot lift, elivator is 65 ft x 35 feet by 6 feet deep, 1300 ton bathtub with gates at each end. Boats enter the bath tub, the upper tub is filled with one foot more water than the bottom tub ( is heavier). the valve between the hydrolic cylinders is opened, and the upper tub descends, forcing the lower tub up. This replaced a series of three locks and uses very little water, only one foot x 65ftx35 ft. This the the highest life lock in the world, Right now I am at the Public library in Lakefield, Sincerely, Jon.
