If I missed contacting you personally, I would like to thank all of you who
replied. I get the digest form of this list's email.
The Admiral is doing the planning for this trip, as usual, and I am just
adding my input. At this point I am spending my time getting our house in
the North Channel ready for sale. We are not doing the Loop, only getting
the boat down to Grand Isle, LA. One would think that the Miss would be
shorter, but according to her calculations, it is not, or it is so close in
distance that she has decided that we will probably do the Tenn-Tom, which
was my preferred route to begin with.
Only about half of the boats are in the water up here, but more every day.
Danny's Fault will be getting a new bottom next week and I will be getting
sore as I sand off the VC 17 and change the bottom paint to something more
salt water friendly. We have seen only about a half dozen boats go by the
house so far. Yep, it is still cold up here in the north land. (We are on
the west end of the North Channel.)
We will be leaving this area mid to late August and heading down Lake
Michigan. I spent some time last week with a friend who has run up and down
Lake Michigan for many years. He suggests getting to the west side of the
Lake asap due to the SW winds that time of year. We looked at the chart and
he pointed out where he would get clobbered coming around every point, esp
Point Betsy. So I guess the choices are anchorages along the Michigan side
and rougher seas or be on the lee shore and pay for Marinas. So I guess that
means I either beat up us and the boat or my wallet. We will see when the
time comes!
Again, any information that I can pass along about Lake Huron/Georgian Bay
please feel free to contact me.
