We purchased Lark Dec 14, 07 and kept her docked at Morehead City yacht
Basin until April 24, 08 where we were then able to bring her to Maryland.
Unfortunately the boat was in NC in January and we were sent a Tax Bill for
several hundred dollars. I called the number on the tax bill and was
informed by a very courteous clerk that all I had to do was send a copy of
our slip agreement in Maryland showing that we were in fact berthed there
and she would rescind the Bill. That was several months ago and I have not
heard anything more since.

LARK
Jim & All,
Morning Star spent the winter of '06-'07 in New Bern, NC. We heard about a
tax issue and asked the dockmaster at the Sheraton (now Skysail) marina.
Ultimately, we walked to the Tax Collector's office and discussed it with
them. The upshot of it all was that we could not be in NC waters for longer
than six months without being obligated for their use tax. When we left New
Bern, three days before the six months was up, we took them a copy of our
paid, final bill from the marina. No tax due and none collected. It was
really quite simple.
Regards,
Randy Pickelmann
