Mackinaw Island   BTW  pronounced  Mack In awe  as  vs Mack in ack (the city) 
 
1.  The Harbor has notoriously poor holding due to rock base, and  is  
basically open to the South.
2. Notify the harbor master that you are anchored out but would like a dock  
(assuming that you do) he will put you on the list.  There is a day  limit on 
the docks, they do pull out early and he will call your boat name on  the 
radio...be ready to answer.
3.  If you have not been to the State of MIchigans harbor web sight I  would 
say it would be a good time.
