Good description Bob!
I would just add that if you want to head NORTH on the ICW after
entering GE Inlet, you can join the ICW via a shortcut. After you pass
the rock piles of Longport to your RIGHT, follow the marked channel
behind Longport and pass under the Longport bridge. Note that the
channel runs close to the land then at the last minute diverts to the
middle of the bridge.
Immediately after that bridge you will join the ICW again. Water is deep
but current is strong in this area.

Watch out for UGF boats (Ugly Go Fasts). Plenty of them in these parts.
They generally have the least experienced skippers.

As for anchoring in the Somers Point -Ocean City area, there can be a
lot of boat traffic especially on the weekends and if you are anchored
near the channel. You can plan that almost no one will slow down for
your anchored vessel.

As always, ideal traveling along the coast is NW wind. It doesn't get
any better than doing the coast in a NW.

Subject: GL: Great Egg Inlet / NJ

Great Egg Inlet (Ocean City, NJ) (not to be confused with Little Egg
Inlet) is a
very usable inlet. From GE Sea Buoy, head about North and pick up the
red's and
green's, you will not see any depth less then 10 feet. Almost a straight
shot to
the "Red and Green" at the end. It is IMPORTANT to keep in the middle of
the
red's and green's. Lots of sand bars on either side. At the end of the
Inlet a?red/green buoy, you will? turn to port under a new 65 foot
bridge (no height boards ???) which brings you
into the Ocean City / Somers Point bay area. Plenty of places to
anchor.?"Active
Captain" displays this area very well with all the different marina
information.

Stong wind against an out going tide can make life interesting to say
the least. But, other then that many many boats use this inlet all the
time both small and large.

If running outside from Cape May, this makes a nice stop before
continuing
either north on the NJ ICW ******(35 foot fixed bridge going north
before
Atlantic City on the NJ ICW frrom Ocean City)*******. Cape May Sea Buoy
to GE (Great Egg) sea buoy is
25.5 NM.
