GL: Chicago to Mackinac Island race

Having been there many times, our opinions are as follows..
 
as a follow up on the advice re: Chic/Mack Isl. race.. of the two I think  
(IMHO) that you would much prefer St. Ignace over Mackinaw City, altho there is  
a tad more to see & do in Mackinaw City.  And as for the Island itself,  if 
there is no room at the docks as expected, you can always anchor out in the  
well protected harbor and dinghy in.
 
St. Ignace has an all new harbor, great restaurants, entertainment on the  
docks...shopping within walking distance and of course the ferries to the island 
 itself.  Rates at either city are the same, but the Island has a  
surcharge...why??? cuz it's THE island...duh!
