GL: cheap fuel

Ralph,
For years I did the same .. carried 5 gallon jugs of fuel to the
boat. When I got the trawler, I switched to a better way: Got my home
heating oil dealer to deliver "offroad diesel" directly to the boat. I was
docked behind a restaurant, and it was always funny to see the restaurant
owner's eyes open wide as the fuel guy ran the hose right thru his balcony
between the tables and down to the dock!!!!
Now I moved to my own
waterfront spot, and the previous owner already set me up with a fuel guy
that'll simply drive across my lawn and fill the boat directly.
Off-Road
Diesel ought to cost simmilar to home heating oil .... usually.

I did this for 6 years with my fishing boat that used regular
gasoline.
I carried jugs of gasoline to the boat and always saved a min. of
$.50
per gallon. That added up to saving a lot of money at the end of the
year. In that case, I was using the boat local to my home and stored the
jugs
in my shed/garage at home.

Using 4 - 5 gallon fuel jugs and a 6 gallon outboard tank, I can
fill up
with two trips to the local gas station (probably not practicle if
you
have a 1000 gallon tank). Assuming reasonable generator use, this gives
me about 250-350 mile range (2 - 18 gallon built in tanks and a 6 gallon
outboard tank, plumbed with a 3 way valve plus the 5 gallon fuel jugs.).
