We live on the water and the Land Lovers seem to think they know
better than us (Again) how to Save our Seas.... I went to the
waterways guide page to check out the Lake Michigan cruising update
and found this Summary about the EPA Discharge Permit (read Tax to
each state to issue the permit) that will be imposed Sept 30,
2008. Here is the link to the Boat/US page with the detailed list of
what they want us to
do. http://www.boatus.com/gov/default.asp?WT.mc_id=400024
"EPA will allow the permits to be issued by states, where they may be
further customized and states can charge a fee. Boaters may need
multiple permits (multiple fees, multiple discharge regulations,
additional paperwork) to legally cruise between states.
EPA may impose additional limitations on a site-specific basis or
require that you obtain an individual permit if they determine your
discharges are not adequate for the waters you are in. This means
multiple permits may be needed to operate even within one state. "
We need to comment on this as a very bad idea and pass it on to ALL
our boating friends.... On the Loop we would have to deal with each
state as we passed through.... The open comment time ends Aug 1st.
