Hello All... an update...

Following a strongly worded letter to the marina by my Florida attorney,
directed to general manager of the marina, there has been some movement.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL MEMBERS FOR THEIR ADVICE AND COMMENTS. THEY HAVE
ALL BEEN READ AND APPRECIATED.

I am currently negotiating with the marina in question, and have spoken to
their general manager. He has requested, and I have (against my better
judgment) agreed to pay them the amount owing for the insurance work and the summer
shrink wrap of the boat. A sum close to $30K. I have made an offer in
compromise to them for the non insurance work, which is meeting at mid point in
the hours they charged and what they estimated. I have not yet had an
acceptance nor a rejection of my offer. Remember, they did give me a written
estimate at my insistence at the start, and when the job was done, at over double
the estimate, the email with the final bill literally said..."will you be
paying this with check or credit card".... with not so much as an apology or an
explanation of why the final job was double the bid. The genl mgr of the
marina has conceded that that was improper on the part of the service department.

I am trusting that the gen'l mgr. of this marina will prevail upon his
service department to accept my good faith offer. Time will tell.. and I WILL
KEEP THE LISTED POSTED ON THE OUTCOME.

Now to end the waiting, the marina in question is the ROSE MARCO ISLAND
RIVER MARINA, in Marco Island, FL. IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH
THIS MARINA, I THINK THE LIST SHOULD BE ADVISED.

They came highly recommended by the marine surveyor doing the insurance
appraisal, and I trusted her advice and retained them to do some non insurance
work, as previously stated. I have YET to actually examine the work, and won't
be back to the boat to do that till this fall at the earliest, but I don't
think it fair that I withhold the insurance funds for that length of time. I
realize that this gives up my "trump card" in dealing with the marina, and if
they do NOT accept my offer of compromise, this list will surely be kept
advised of that. I am hoping that will not take place.

If anyone wants further details, feel free to contact me at any time either
via the list, or offline by email or even a phone call.
