Your dog with the chip system is only effective if the animal is taken
to a vet. Many people don't even know about the chip system for pets and
if they found your dog might not take the dog to a vet. Best thing you
can do is to train the dog not to run away.

Peggy, ETAL  The chip has the issuing "firm" and the registration
number. Most vets that I am aware of have the two scanners that will
read the  
various firms chips and have the phone numbers.  When called the firm
complies with 
information on however you specified, owner, backup, and probably
primary 
vet.
