Dan:

Go for it!  There have been plenty of smaller boats that have done 
the Loop without mishap.  You will simply want to pick your weather 
windows to avoid rough seas (for you -- the boat will take more than 
you want to go through).

The only thing you will want to figure out, and practice, is getting 
secured in the various locks.  Hurrying down from the helm station to 
tend a line could be a challenge until you get the technique right.
