I had a 1986 Carver Voyager (same hull, but different
floor plan) for almost 8 years. I can merely suggest,
as many others have, picking your weather windows
very carefully. The biggest waves I experienced on
our inland lake in Oklahoma were maybe 3 feet crest
to trough. It was uncomfortable, for sure, but I did
not fear for my life!
The hull does not have very much of a keel, so tends
to wander in waves. Again, not dangerous, but merely
unpleasant. Choose when you go out!
Otherwise, it's a nice boat. My Voyager had a lower
helm and it was nice to be able to take it out on sunny
(if chilly) winter days. Mine had reverse cycle heat and
air conditioning and a 3 kW Onan genset. Mine also had
the 'venturi' windshield rather than the 'skiff' windshield.
MUCH better on hot days!
By the way, Carver also made an aft cabin boat on
the same basic hull. I think it was named "Riviera."

Subject: GL: 28' CArver Mariner
I'm looking at a 28' Carver Mariner. Wonder if this is something
I could do the loop in. If it is big enough to handle the few areas
where you have to go out on Blue water and cross the great
lakes. It is in great shape and has enough room since I will be
single handling most of the time. Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dan
