I havn't seen a lot of traffic from loopers this year on this list so I
though I'd add some.
We have come up the Michigan coast from White Lake, through the Straits of
Mackinac, through the North Channel and are now half=way down the northern
Georgan Bay coast in Parry Sound.
A report of our last few days
We like to joke, "The older we get the more we gain in wusdom...We get
wussier and wussier!!"
We listen to the weather twice a day and plot out what we think the weather
gurus are saying.
We had planned to go from Killarney to the Bustards and thkn to Byng Inlet
the next day ...BUT... it looked like the weather window was on;y going to
be open a short time (this is where the wussy part comes in, our tolerance
for bad weather is very low. Our displacement speed trawler just rolls too
much in the wrong kind of seas.)
We left the Killarney Lodge Marina (nice place) at 11:00 and headed out for
a direct crossing to Byng Inlet. About 20 miles out we picked up the next
weather report and said: "if we go two extra hours today we will miss being
stuck in B.I. for another day or two. The strech from Byng Inlet to Pointe a
Baril being one of those offshore legs we perfer to do when the water is
pretty slick. Besides, we had stopped at Wrights in B.I. 2005. A slight
course change and in a couple of hours we are heading into the inlet with
the wind building to 20, just like Environment Canada said it would.
We anchored in Hopewell Bay at mile 29 (measured out of Parry Sound) in 12
feet of nice clay and mud. The vee was a little active but we sat there for
two nights in comfort.
We were now on the small boat channel. I don't mind 15-20s here s we took
off this morning for Parry Sound and the public dock (I did want to be ahead
of the rain and possible tstorms.
We expect to run into loopers eventually but so far havn't seen any. Our
plan is still to be in Port Severn on about the 9th.
safe travels.
