We have never NEEDED an anchor winch on our 30' Willard motorsailer. The boat
has quite a bit of windage and displaces 17,000 lbs. We use either a CQR or a
23 lb Fortress anchor and have rarely dragged using either in 13 years of
cruising the Atlantic coast.

Actually my boat has an anchor wench rather than an anchor winch since my
slight, attractive wife does most of the heavy lifting. The trick is to motor
up
to the anchor so that the pull is nearly vertical rather than trying to pull
the boat to the anchor by muscle power against the wind and tide.
