Leon & Sandy, The Tennessee River is a delightful river to begin your
cruising experience, especially the upper end where you will be starting. We
spent two years exploring the river before tearing ourselves away to float
south last November.
Your first stop could be Fort Loudon Marina. Do not miss the side trip
up the Little Tennessee River, also called Tellico Lake where the Smoky
Mountains are visible in the distance.
Fort Loudon Lock will be your first locking experience. Call the lock
from the marina. If there is a long wait, you will be comfortably tied up at
the marina. We liked to anchor at Paint Rock Creek.
Dotted with islands, Watts Bar Lake is the most beautiful lake on the
river. You should find a marina here, either Blue Springs or Euchee Marina.
Would you like to watch bald eagles from the comfort of your houseboat?
Then anchor next in Hiwassee River. The anchorage is 2 miles up river near
an eagle hacking area.
Shady Grove Harbor is up Soddy Creek near Soddy Daisy. I just love
these names!
The 15 mile long Chickamauga Lake and lock lead you to Chattanooga.
Plan to spend a few days tied to the downtown dock to visit all the
ChattaNEWga attractions.
Leaving Chattanooga you will be cruising the most exciting part of the
entire Tennessee River dubbed the Grand Canyon of Tennessee. End your cruise
at either Hales Bar Marina or anchor at Little Cedar Mountain.
This amazing two week cruise will leave you begging for more.....
