 Leon & Sandy,

we will depart Knoxville south,... in a 32' pontoon (houseboat with a 70
horse four stroke Yamaha. I wonder how far we will make it in two weeks.
Its more like a long West swing

Don't know, but would guess that if you made it to Pickwick Lk you have
probably shoved to hard. I would plan the trip around obtaining fuel, and I would
slow down and smell the roses....constant movement is really not a lot of
fun. If you only made it to Chattoonaga and back but enjoyed yourselves that's
far enough.

Please tell me what kind of communication radio to get?
Marine VHF with a full (8 ft) antenna would be my choice, but people have
done it with a handheld, which would be very nice to have as a backup...again
the latter too would be my choice.

Needed charts? Where to get them?

A good start would be online
_http://www.lrd.usace.army.mil/navigation/navcharts/#cprTennessee%20River_
(http://www.lrd.usace.army.mil/navigation/navcharts/#cprTennessee%20River)
I would also go to your Tennessee Wildlife Resources
_www.tnwildlife.org_ (http://www.tnwildlife.org) as they should have a single map or chart
with a lot of information on it about all of the "Tennessee Boating Trail" As a
side piece of info you now have an 1800 ft transient dock in Chattanooga.

Any other basic info needed.
Well...you said we and a lady named Sandy. Having traveled with
ladies...wife,daughter,and her girlfriends I would suggest something more than a porta
potti, not knowing what is available on your houseboat. Or at least find the
facilities to handle same ...empty it, in a timely manner.
Have fun, Carl Hibbard
