GL: Man Overboard

This is a great idea but you have to have some kind of override so the
skipper or 'new' skipper can get the boat back to where the person fell
overboard or in case the boat starts drifting away. Without an override,
the
boat could come to rest a couple hundred feet away from the MOB and
you can't
get back to them because the wind is blowing you away or they
are knocked out
or incapacitated in some other way so they can't get to
the boat on their
own.

Re: GL: Man Overboard
In the "olden days" before electronic ignitions there
were "points" in
the
distributor which one replaced as part of every
tune-up. Back then,
some
motorcycle racers mounted an extra set of points
on the handlebar with a
card
stuck between the contacts and the card was
attached to their wrist with
a
string. If the rider fell off or crashed,
the spark plug coil got
shorted out
instantly and the engine stopped
immediately.
My last gas-engined stern
drive boat had a red cord attached
to a switch next to the throttle.
You
attached the other end of the cord to
your belt loop. If ya fell out
out of
the boat, it would rip the cord off
the switch and the engine would stop
instantly.
There must be something
like this ya could attach maybe to the
on-off switch on a diesel to provide a
simmilar feature....

Many of
us have an electronic engine shut off as part of our engine room
automatic
fire system, perhaps what you mention or something similar could
interface
with that pre-existing system. Jon.>
Good point, as my boat also
has this.
Worth looking into.
I just thought the "autotether" was worth
sharing for
those with outboards.
